Is GAP insurance refundable after I pay off my car?

Usually yes. If you paid off, refinanced, or sold a financed car before the loan's scheduled end and no GAP claim was ever paid, the unused portion of your GAP charge is typically refundable. It is almost never refunded automatically — you have to request it in writing from the right party.

How much GAP refund will I get?

Most GAP refunds land in the low hundreds of dollars and shrink the closer you are to the end of the term. We show an estimated range (not a single number) because administrators use different formulas and we don't have your exact contract. The free estimate on this page gives you that range.

Does the refund come to me or my lender?

If your loan is paid in full, the refund is usually paid to you directly. If your loan is still open, it's typically applied to your loan balance by the lender rather than sent to you as cash.

What do I get for $29?

1. What RefundGPS is — and is not

RefundGPS provides information and document templates only. We are not a law firm, accountant, or financial advisor, and nothing we provide is legal, financial, or tax advice. We do not file any claim or request on your behalf — you send your own requests using the templates we provide. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any GAP administrator, lender, dealer, insurer, or government agency.

2. Estimates are ranges, not guarantees

Every estimate is a range based on the information you provide, not a promise of any specific refund. Whether you receive a refund, and how much, is decided by your GAP administrator or lender under your contract — not by RefundGPS. We do not guarantee any outcome.

3. Your responsibilities

Give accurate information — your estimate and Kit are only as good as your answers.
You send your own cancellation request and follow-ups.
Verify your administrator’s current cancellation address against your own contract before mailing anything.

4. Payment

The Kit is a one-time $29 purchase processed by Stripe. It is an instant digital download, so all sales are final. See our Refund Policy.

5. Acceptable use

The Kit is licensed to you for your own personal use. You may not resell, redistribute, or republish the Kit or its templates. All RefundGPS content remains the property of RefundGPS.

6. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The Service and Kit are provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, RefundGPS’s total liability for any claim relating to the Service or Kit is limited to the amount you paid us. We are not responsible for the decisions or actions of any administrator, lender, or other third party.
