ABOUT REFUNDGPS

We help you reclaim the car-loan add-on money you’re owed

When a financed car is paid off, refinanced, sold, or traded early, the unused portion of products like GAP is usually refundable — but almost no one collects it. RefundGPS exists to fix that, starting with GAP.

Who’s behind this

I spent years on the acquisition side of a large dealer network, where I saw thousands of finance & insurance contracts up close. The same thing happened again and again: people financed optional add-ons — GAP, service contracts, tire & wheel — then paid off or refinanced early and never claimed a cent of the unused balance back. The dealer didn’t remind them. The administrator didn’t volunteer it. The money just stayed put.

RefundGPS is the playbook I wish those customers had had: the exact party to contact, the right letter, and the persistence to see it through. No fluff, no “done-for-you” markup — just the tools to get your own money back.

What RefundGPS does — and doesn’t

  • Does: give you a free eligibility estimate, then a $29 do-it-yourself kit — who to contact for your case, a ready-to-send cancellation letter, a document checklist, a phone script, a follow-up schedule, and an escalation plan.
  • Doesn’t: promise an exact refund amount, file your claim for you, or give legal or financial advice. We’re not affiliated with any administrator, lender, or dealer.

Sources & methodology

We never invent legal or financial facts. Every claim we make about the refund process is grounded in a primary source — regulators, government research, and administrator contracts. The core ones:

Where a refund amount depends on your specific contract or state, we show a range and tell you it’s an estimate — never a fabricated exact figure.

Frequently asked questions

Who is behind RefundGPS?

RefundGPS is built by someone who spent years on the acquisition side of a large dealer network. After seeing thousands of F&I contracts, it was obvious how much money customers leave behind when they pay off or refinance early and never claim their unused add-ons. RefundGPS turns that insider knowledge into a step-by-step playbook anyone can use.

Is RefundGPS a law firm or financial advisor?

No. RefundGPS provides information and document templates only — not legal, financial, or insurance advice. We do not file claims on your behalf and we are not affiliated with any GAP administrator, lender, or dealer.

How do you know your information is accurate?

Every claim we make about the refund process is grounded in primary sources — the CFPB, the Federal Reserve, the FTC, and state regulators — listed in the Sources section on this page. Where the law or the dollar amount depends on your specific contract, we say so and show you a range, never a fabricated exact number.

How does a GAP refund actually work?

If you paid off, refinanced, sold, or traded your financed car before the loan's scheduled end and no GAP claim was paid, the unused portion of your GAP charge is usually refundable pro-rata, minus any cancellation fee. It is not automatic: you request it in writing from the GAP administrator named in your contract — usually a third party, not the dealer. If the loan is paid in full, the refund is typically paid to you; if it is still open, it usually reduces your loan balance.

Why pay for a kit when this information is free online?

General guides exist, but they stop at 'call your dealer.' The hard part is your specific case: which of three parties to contact, the exact cancellation letter, the documents for your trigger, a realistic range, and how to follow up and escalate over 6–8 weeks. The kit packages that path so you don't lose the refund to confusion.

What if I'm not even sure I have refundable add-ons?

Start with our free checklist — it shows you how to decode your contract and spot GAP, extended warranties, and other refundable products. No payment required.
